No, it doesn't have the size or heft of a Royal Oak, especially one with a bright yellow dial. But somehow it manages a wrist presence all its own. Most of this is thanks to the impressive skeletonization, link which surely would've been link like shouting at those quartz disruptors in the '80s: "This is mechanical watchmaking, and it's here to stay!" And now, I love this thing even more, knowing it somehow existed alongside a bright yellow link Royal Oak. – Tony Traina
The simplicity and size of this watch work harmoniously. It link would have link been interesting to see this without the date window and link seconds hand, maybe even without applied hour markers for a super clean and less watchy look, but for now, I'll take her as she is.
Collectors who have seen this watch during in-person previews have told link me they're impressed with the fit and finish, and I'm genuinely looking forward to seeing the watch in person. Even link more than link that, it's exciting to know this is just the first day in a long line of upcoming innovations from the brand.
The decorated caseback shows the famous "Auld Mug" trophy atop a blue screen with a wave motif and the text "36th America's Cup, Auckland 2021." This ornamentation obscures the ability to really view the movement. In link a way, the link inability to see the movement link is fitting. A "true" tool watch generally shouldn't have an open caseback, so in many ways, this is something of a hybrid – partly open, partly closed. I'm not sure that this was the intention, but that's how I view it.
For an link example, let's consider the sort of watch you would most certainly want to research before you place a bid or prep a link wire transfer. Something like an early Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar. link I'm partial to the 25554BA.
