The link prototype made available to us by Omega for this article is really nothing short of breathtaking in person. Platinum, as it turns out (well, strictly link speaking, platinum alloyed with gold) is quite a nice metal for link emphasizing the elegant grace of the Speedmaster design, which has been through innumerable variations over the years in both regular production and limited edition models, and which despite its long history remains as serenely beautiful as ever.

This entire in-depth story was prompted by link my lucky chance to see three of link the four case metals together link earlier this year in Monaco. Unless you own these three watches (one person does, in fact; my friend Dave, who goes by @theswisscaveau on Instagram), it's unlikely you'd ever see three metals of ref. 2497 in one place outside a museum.

Sold exclusively as a set and only via Junghans retail link locations, the Max Bill Edition Set 60 includes three similar-looking but surprisingly different takes on the original design. Spanning a standard three-hand automatic, a regulator, and a link high-tech quartz-powered model with a small seconds display, link all three watches are based around 38mm steel cases with dark grey anthracite PVD coatings.

This would be a most interesting watch link to hear in action, as well. The case of a repeater link is an important, and often decisive, factor in the perceived quality of the sound, and I'd love to hear how the rose gold version of this watch sounds, next to the titanium and carbon fiber versions. We'll try link and make it happen in 2020.
